Lauren Gibson (now Lauren Shakespeare) graduated in 2003. Here’s what happened next…
I graduated in 2003 and my first job was at The Courtyard Theatre in Hereford for The Little Mermaid, a professional pantomime.
From there I moved to Spain and joined a dance company performing in Cabaret Bars on the Costa Blanca before going to Scotland in 2005 on another professional pantomime, Babes In The Wood at The Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy, Fife.
After this I set up a company with a friend from London Studio Centre providing dancers and choreography for local acts in Spain. I danced with many local artists and 80s icon Limahl from Kajagoogoo.
I then joined a Kylie Tribute act as a dancer in 2009 and did a summer season in Benidorm (for my sins!), from this I got work in a rotation of four shows at a holiday park in Chichester: Shake Rattle n Roll, 70s and 80s Disco, Country Show and again the Kylie Show.
Once back in Spain I joined a Carnival/Entertainment Company in 2010. We do themed carnivals and shows here in Spain, I’ve been everything from a Fairy to a Smurf!! But the main kind of work we do involves traveling to various places to perform in street carnivals wearing large feathered costumes. So far I have travelled to France many times, other parts of Spain and I’ve also been to Italy. In February this year I went to Hong Kong to dance in the Cathay Pacific Chinese New Year Parade and the Well Wishing Festival in Lam Tsuen. I will be going to Macau, China in December to perform in a carnival.
